Frequently Asked Questions

Tinctures

  • A tincture is a medicine made by extracting a substance in alcohol. The Thieves use a tincture making process called, double-extraction.

  • Some medicinal compounds need to be extracted by alcohol to become available for our bodies to use. In fungi, alcohol breaks down the chitinous cell wall. Other compounds like polysaccharides and antioxidants can be extracted with hot water. After allowing the hot water to cool, it is combined with the alcohol and together they create our tinctures. They are then ready to be bottled.

  • Yes they do. Our tinctures are made by a process called double extraction. The process uses alcohol and water to extract different properties from the fungi.

  • You sure can! Feel free to add your tincture dose to hot or iced tea or coffee, cocktails, juice, smoothies etc.

  • Yes and we recommend it! Dogs can benefit from fungi in the same way humans can.

  • No, cats cannot have even the smallest amount of alcohol.

  • Our mushroom tinctures are shelf stable and do not require refrigeration. Keep them out of direct sunlight.

  • Anytime!

  • Either way is fine. Whatever feels best for your body.

  • Mushroom tinctures offer a range of benefits, many of which overlap. Some people are more sensitive than others and may feel benefits quickly. Others may feel benefits after a couple months. Many people notice the effects only after they have stopped taking their daily tinctures and the benefits halt.

Dry Goods

  • Store your dried mushrooms and tea in a cool, dry place. After opening the original bag, continue to store your mushrooms in an air tight container. They will keep for years.

  • Nope. They won’t get as soft as they should be and the texture will be weird.

  • Dried mushrooms can be reconstituted in any kind of warm liquid (wine, stock, cream, hot water) Add one cup of hot liquid to each ounce of dried mushroom in a small mixing bowl. Leave in liquid for at least 30 minutes and occasionally turn them until completely soft.

Don’t forget to use your mushroom water as a base to flavor your recipes. It’s a good idea to reconstitute even if you’re simply adding your mushrooms into a soup. Their texture will be much better!

  • Use your mushrooms as a base for soups and sauces, combine with eggs in a scramble or omelet, cook the mushrooms into a risotto, or toss with pasta.

  • Typically, soaking one ounce of dried mushrooms will yield about eight ounces of rehydrated mushrooms.
